With young kids, we have had birthday parties and served pizza at the parties. Although our kids will eat almost any pizza we put in front of them, other kids their age aren’t as adventurous. So we created a “plain” cheese pizza to serve. This is a great pizza alone or you can use this as a base and add additional ingredients.
Bake the Colette & Frank’s Gluten Free Pizza Mix as directed. For the toppings, start with:
- Your favorite pasta sauce. Yes, pasta sauce! There are a great range of flavors than the traditional pizza sauce. For this pizza, a basil pasta sauce works best!
- Sun dried or oven dried tomatoes. Whatever you use, just make sure the tomatoes are soft and quite easy to eat.
- Your favorite BBQ sauce. I have noticed that using a maple flavored BBQ works best with kids. If serving for a group of people who like the hot stuff, then feel free to use a BBQ sauce with a little more kick. In other words, use a BBQ sauce that your target audience will enjoy.
- A Romano or Parmesan cheese.
- A Gouda cheese
- Italian seasonings: If you can find a mix, use one tablespoon of that. Otherwise use one teaspoon of each: oregano, basil and parsley.
- Once the pizza crust is finished baking, place it and the pizza stone on a few hot pots.
Start with the sauce. Mix together:
- 1 ½ cups of the pasta sauce
- 3/4 cup of the sun dried or oven dried tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons of the BBQ sauce. In the future, add more or less according to your tastes, but start with three.
- Add the mixed sauce from above to the pizza crust.
Sprinkle the Italian seasoning all over the sauce.
Using a shredder, add the Romano or Parmesan cheese on top of the sauce. I don’t measure here. I just try to get a nice layer
Using a shredder, add the Gouda cheese. Again, I don’t measure here either. However, I do tend to add roughly twice as much Gouda cheese as the Romano or Parmesan cheese.
Return the “built” pizza back to the oven for 15 more minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
